Sydney has a comprehensive public transport system, which can conveniently get you around Greater Sydney and beyond. The system includes bus, rail and ferry services, plus other means of transportation.

Sydney Trains.....

Sydney's rail system is often the fastest means of getting around, especially during peak hours and over long distances. There are eight route systems and each system has a colour code to make identification easy. Trains operate from 4.30am to midnight and are then replaced by all night 'Nightride' buses on which train tickets are valid. Info: 13 1500

Sydney Buses.....

The bus service is extensive and operates to most suburbs. It is the handiest way to get around, especially where there are no trains. Single and return journey tickets are purchased when boarding the bus, and 'Travelpasses' and 'TravelTen' tickets are available at any newsagency. Info: 13 1500

• The Sydney Explorer runs on a circuit of 28 major tourist attractions in the city, The Rocks, Kings Cross, Chinatown, and Darling Harbour. Tickets are valid for one day and passengers can leave the bus at any one of the 28 stops along the route and catch any following bus.

• The Bondi & Bay Explorer travels on a 35km circuit, visiting Sydney's famous Bondi Beach and beautiful harbourside suburbs of Double Bay, Rose Bay and Watsons Bay. Services operate every 30 minutes, seven days a week. Tel: 131 500.

SydneyPass.....

The Sydneypass is a three, five or seven day complete tourist ticket. It offers unlimited travel on the Sydney and Bondi & Bay Explorers, Ferry Cruises, JetCats, RiverCats and all regular Sydney Ferries, Sydney Buses, and CityRail services. It also offers return Airport Express. Tickets are available from Explorer drivers or tel: 131 500.

Light Rail - Sydney's Latest Transport System.....

Sydney Ferries.....

The Sydney ferry system is an efficient and very scenic way to reach the harbour suburbs. Ferry services run from Circular Quay to Manly, Taronga Park Zoo, Neutral Bay, Cremorne, Kirribilli, Mosman, Rose Bay, Meadowbank, and Parramatta. The Inner Harbour, Manly Ferry, Manly Jetcat, and Parramatta ferry services operate from 6am to 11.30pm. Info: 9207 3170

Sydney Monorail.....

The monorail is the best way of reaching Darling Harbour. Its seven station loop runs anti-clockwise from Darling Harbour through the city, with trains departing every five minutes. Take this sky-ride over Sydney's interesting streets and around Darling Harbour. It's a colourful connection between hotels, shops, restaurants, museums, and cinemas.
