| Snowfields If you've got only a weekend to spare, you've still got time to get out of the City for an unforgettable escape to the NSW snowfields. Whether you're a newchum skier or an expert - or into the rapidly growing sport of snowboarding - you'll find all the thrills you want, and a great social time too, down around the Snowy Mountains resorts. Accommodation runs the full gamut, from shared cabin or lodge-style to the ultimate luxury.
Perisher Blue
It's something old and something new, in a great combination. Popular Perisher-Smiggins has merged with Blue Cow-Guthega to create Australia's first ski mega-resort. It has more than 1,000 hectares of ski slopes serviced by 12 chairlifts, 23 T-Bars and 13 other lifts with an overall lifting capacity of 47,000 skiers per hour. It provides a great mix of snow enjoyment with tree runs, steeps and modest slopes - plus two professionally run snowboard parks. There's night skiing/boarding twice a week at Perisher. Great restaurants and bars abound here so there's plenty of lively aprĖs-ski entertainment. ACCESS to the Perisher area is either by road or via the Ski Tube from Bullocks Flat. To reach Blue Cow village, which is even higher than Perisher or Charlotte Pass, you can either ski, take the new Interceptor Quad Chair, or take the Ski Tube. At Guthega, the Nordic Ski Centre continues to be the area for cross-country skiers.
